Taco Truck Sells Out Before Lunch Rush Ends

THE TRUCK PARK — The birria was gone by one o’clock on Friday, and nobody had to ask whether there was any left. A small green ticket named Shorty had already told the line, and the order window never once had to shout a name.

“I just cook,” said the owner, flipping tortillas without looking up. “He tells people where I am, what is on the menu and when the next batch is ready.”

Customers say the wait feels shorter when the order is placed before arriving. The bag is ready, the name is on it, and the only thing left to do is say thank you.

Lines Move Faster as Orders Come In Early

Truck owners report that the crowd at the window is thinner and happier now that regulars order ahead from the truck’s own page. Payment is made up front, the pickup time is on the ticket, and a no-show is a rare thing.

Walk-ups are welcome as always and stay with the truck’s own register. Shorty, the owners are careful to say, only handles what is sent through the page.

Whole List Hears About the New Menu Item

When a truck adds a flavor, its regulars now get a text and an email before the first one is plated. A push notification does the rest for anyone who has saved the truck to their phone.

“They pulled up already knowing what they wanted,” one owner said.

Evenings Belong to the Cook Again

Posting the day’s stop used to mean standing at the flat-top with a phone in one hand. Owners now text Shorty where they will be and what is cooking, and the post goes up ahead of the event.

“My marketing is done before I get busy,” said a crepe truck owner, folding a crepe.

Park Hosts Friday Truck Rally

Trucks will line up along the lawn again this Friday from four to nine. Bring a chair, bring a friend, and bring an appetite. Orders may be placed from the phone while still in the parking lot.

Bookings now land on the truck’s own page, with the date, the place and the headcount already filled in. The owner’s only job, the paper reports, is to say yes and keep cooking.

A neighborhood association was said to be especially pleased.
